Oropos council seeks relocation of toll station
As public opposition to increases in toll charges on some Greek roads mounts, the municipal council of Oropos, eastern Attica, has set up a committee calling for the removal of tollgates in its area.
Not satisfied by a government pledge to exempt residents of Oropos and other parts of northeastern Attica from higher toll charges, the committee has said it wants the tollgates at Afidnes moved outside Attica.
Transport Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis has defended the recent rise in road toll charges, noting that they were part of agreements with private firms dating to 2007.
