Senior Athens police officer arrested over uninsured workers
An investigation by the police’s internal affairs department into three restaurants operating in Athens has led to the arrest of three officers – including a senior policeman, 55, at a police precinct in the northern suburbs of Athens – one retired officer and another seven people.
The 55-year-old is accused of hiring uninsured staff at the restaurants, which were registered in the name of his wife.
Some of the employees were allegedly police officers.
Charges include abuse of power, tax evasion and health code violations.
