Police seeking anarchist Costas Sakkas after he violates release terms

Police on Tuesday were looking for Costas Sakkas, a self-proclaimed anarchist who is facing charges of involvement in the urban guerrilla group Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire, after he failed to report to his local police precinct in Kaminia, Piraeus, by midnight on Monday.

Sakkas, 30, had been released from custody in January on the condition that he posted bail of 5,000 euros, reported to the precinct closest to his declared residence every Monday and refrained from fraternizing with any known or suspected members of the terrorist group. He had been re-arrested after his fingerprints were found in an apartment that had been used several years ago by Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire as an arms cache.

Authorities launched the search for Sakkas at midnight on Monday, after he failed to report in.

Sakkas has denied any involvement with the terrorist group, though he has admitted to being on “friendly terms” with some of its members.
