Twelve arrests in Attica in connection to fuel smuggling ring
Police on Wednesday announced the arrest of 12 people in Attica in connection to an alleged illegal fuel smuggling ring. Another 30 were being questioned, officers said.
The president of bunkering company Eteka SA, Giorgos Spanos, was among those arrested on Wednesday. Spanos is also the president of Atromitos soccer club.
According to early police reports, among those arrested were two ministry employees, Eteka SA members of staff, gas station owners and soccer club officials.
Authorities allege the ring had smuggled thousands of tons of illegal fuel to the market.
