Stournaras reveals Finance Ministry salaries

The Finance Ministry pays a total of almost 52,000 euros a month to its general secretaries and advisers, Parliament was informed on Friday.

Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras revealed the figures after a question was submitted to the House by Independent Greeks MP Chrysoula Giatagana.

Stournaras said that Finance Ministry general secretaries had seen their wages reduced several times in 2010 and 2011. They now earn 4,750 euros per month.

There are four general secretaries and one special secretary at the ministry, as well as seven special advisers and 11 staff members that have been transferred from other departments.

Giatagana had also asked about salaries at the TAIPED privatization fund but Stournaras said that as it does not belong to the state and is governed by private law, he did not have the authority to reveal the organization’s wage details.
