Shipowner accused of owing money to state granted bail

Shipowner Evangelos Ventouris was bailed on Wednesday shortly after his arrest for debts to the state.

He was freed on bail of 10,000 euros, barred from leaving the country and ordered to appear at his local police station once a month.

A firm the 55-year-old owns is alleged to owe 1.98 million euros.

Also on Wednesday, a 42-year-old businessman was arrested in Trikala, central Greece. He is alleged to owe 13.9 million euros to the state.
