Journalist apologizes for homophobic outburst

Journalist Dimos Verikios issued an apology on Thursday for making insulting comments that targeted gay writer Auguste Corteau and other homosexuals. “I honestly regret this misunderstanding,” he said. “I humbly apologize to every known or unknown, open or closeted homosexual.”

Verikios’s statement, published on his Facebook page, came after numerous complaints to the Greek National Council for Radio and Television and the ESIEA journalists’ union. ESIEA publicly condemned Verikios for the comments he made on his daily Alpha Radio show, which included claiming that there is a “dictatorship of the gay” in Greece and suggesting that Golden Dawn members should target homosexuals.
