Two suicides rock Crete over the weekend

Two businessmen are believed to have committed suicide on the island of Crete over the weekend, raising concerns about the impact of the crisis as both incidents though unrelated are believed to have been prompted by financial concerns.

The first occurred on Saturday morning in Irakleio on the northern coast of the southern Aegean island, where a 61-year-old businessman shot himself in his home.

Just 24 hours later, authorities reported the death of a 56-year-old man in Hersonissos who shot himself with a hunting rifle, also in his home.

Local media reports did not mention whether they had left notes explaining their decision.
