Migrant workers protest conditions at Nea Manolada farms
Dozens of migrant laborers, mainly from Bangladesh, on Friday held a rally to protest working conditions in Nea Manolada, southwest of Patra in western Greece, which has some of the country’s largest strawberry farms.
The workers claim that they have been working without pay for several months and are forced to live in squalid conditions.
Nea Manolada’s strawberry farms gained widespread notoriety last year, when two foremen at a farm shot and injured more than 30 Bangladeshi workers following a pay dispute.
