Diavata prisoners given extra time for obstructing justice

A Thessaloniki court has tacked on a few more years in prison for a group of 19 prisoners already serving time at the Diavata prison in northern Greece, for trying to prevent law enforcement agents from transferring a fellow inmate, a Russian national, to Athens where he was set to be extradited to Russia, in February 2010.

The inmates, most of them Georgian nationals, received additional sentences ranging from 3.5 to 6 years behind bars.
