Civil service to come to standstill Wednesday and Thursday
Civil servants’ union ADEDY is holding a 48-hour strike starting on Wednesday, which is expected to bring the public administration to a standstill and cause traffic problems in central Athens as a march is due to take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
ADEDY is protesting layoffs in the public sector that have been imposed on Greece by its international creditors as part of cost-cutting measures.
The union will also be staging a rally in the northern port city of Thessaloniki, at the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos, on Wednesday.
Another rally will be organized in Athens on Thursday at 1 p.m. It will start at Klafthmonos Square and end at Parliament, where it will be followed by a concert.
