Mother, grandmother found guilty of killing newborn in Peloponnese
The body of an infant that was found wrapped in a sheet at a landfill in August last year had been dumped in a garbage can by its mother and grandmother, a court in the Peloponnese ruled on Wednesday.
The court in Ilia handed a life sentence to the baby’s 45-year-old grandmother and 10 years to the 21-year-old mother.
They both confessed to dumping the newborn over fears that the young woman would be ostracized by her family and the local community because it was born out of wedlock.
