Vassilis Michaloliakos not worried about competition for Piraeus mayorship

Piraeus Mayor Vassilis Michaloliakos insisted on Wednesday that he was not concerned by the decision of Yiannis Moralis, the vice president of popular local soccer club Olympiakos, to run against him in May’s local elections.

Olympiakos’s chairman, Vangelis Marinakis, will also run on Moralis’s ticket.

“My only opponent is the city’s problems,” said Michaloliakos, who succeeded Panayiotis Fasoulas, a former Olympiakos basketball player, at Piraeus City Hall.

Fasoulas had run in 2006 as a PASOK candidate, whereas Moralis will stand as an independent.
