Independent Greeks’ candidates for EP elections include Facebook volunteers

Independent Greeks MP Notis Marias is the latest lawmaker to announce that he is giving up his seat in Parliament to run in the European elections.

Marias’s announcement came as the right-wing party announced its candidates, including Marias, for the May 25 electoral contest.

Fifteen of the 42 candidates were picked by ballot after expressing interest in representing the party via Facebook and submitting their CVs.

Independent Greeks leader Panos Kammenos said that almost 600 people sent their details to the party.

Academic Costas Zouraris, labor expert Giorgos Roumanias and former Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) employee Zoe Georganta are among the candidates.
