Ex-ministry official released in defense deal probe

A former Defense Ministry official charged with breach of faith in connection with arms procurements in 2001 was released pending trial on Tuesday after posting 100,000 euros in bail.

Giorgos Koliris, who was banned from leaving the country, is being charged in connection with an electronic defense program known as “Electronic Warfare,” which cost the state 50 million euros more than necessary, according to prosecutors.

The arms dealer Thomas Liakounakos has also been summoned to testify in connection with the same procurement. He has until May 14 to prepare his defense.
