Arms trial of former Cypriot interior minister to resume May 12

The trial of former Cypriot Interior Minister Dinos Michaelides and several others in connection to the sale of Russian TOR M1 missiles systems to Greece is to resume on May 12.

Judges rejected a request from defendants for the trial to be postponed.

Michaelides, his son Michalis, and the former state legal counsel Anastasios Sofos and his wife, Maria, are facing allegations of accepting bribes during the signing of the agreement.

Syrian businessman Fouad al-Zayat is also wanted in connection to the investigation.

The deal took place when Akis Tsochatzopoulos was Greece’s defense minister. He was jailed last year for money laundering.
