Suspected girlfriend killer tells court death was an ‘accident’
Vangelis Stefanakis, 25, who is charged with the murder of his 23-year-old girlfriend, Fai Bachla, in Nea Makri, northeast of Athens, in May 2013, on Monday admitted in court to slapping her, but “not repeatedly,” deeming her death an accident.
Stefanakis, suspected of viciously beating the victim, had originally claimed Bachla hit her head on a car bumper after a quarrel.
The victim’s father, who also testified in court on Monday, charged that the victim had been beaten by the defendant in the past.
Bachla’s sister, who had allegedly had an affair with the defendant, was ordered to appear in court over perjury charges.
