Alco poll shows SYRIZA has 3.4 point lead over conservatives

A new opinion poll on voting intentions for European Parliament elections shows leftist opposition SYRIZA ahead of conservative coalition leaders New Democracy by 3.4 percent.

The poll, which was conducted by Alco for Proto Thema newspaper, shows SYRIZA of Alexis Tsipras taking the lead with 24.2 percent, followed by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’s conservative party which stands at 20.8 percent.

Ultranationalist Golden Dawn is at third place with 7.7 percent, followed by To Potami (The River), a center-left initiative set up by the television journalist Stavros Theodorakis, at 5.8 percent.

According to the same survey, PASOK’s grouping with other center-left parties, known as the Olive Tree (Elia) alliance, is at 5.3 percent, ahead of the Greek Communist Party (KKE) at 4.8 percent. The right-wing, anti-bailout Independent Greeks party scores 3.3 percent while Democratic Left (DIMAR), a former member of the conservative-led coalition government, is on 1.8 percent.

The Alco poll shows 12.4 are undecided.
