Venizelos calls for unity following elections

Coming together as a nation is key for Greece to put the current crisis behind it, Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos Venizelos said in a meeting with Greek President Karolos Papoulias on Wednesday.

“We want to see growth and employment in a citizen-friendly Europe, nobody can bear austerity and unemployment,” said Venizelos at the meeting held following Sunday’s elections.

Regarding the post-election local political landscape, the socialist PASOK chief noted that the main conclusion reached was the need for maintaining the country’s stability as well as the need for joint efforts to be made in order for the country to exit the crisis.

“We’re only a few steps away from the end [of the crisis], we must do everything together,” Venizelos said, adding that Greeks were against a “symbolic civil war” that was being promoted by certain politicians. “The country must come together once again,” he said.
