Municipal police staff get new jobs

Of the former municipal police officers who have been put in the government’s mobility scheme, 2,670 will be transferred to other posts in the civil service, with just 200 facing dismissal, Administrative Reform Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Friday.

“We are using the mobility scheme to best manage our human resources,” Mitsotakis said, taking a dig at opposition critics who, “in an attempt to make political gains,” had claimed that all members of the now defunct municipal police force would be sacked.

The 2,670 employees are to start in their new jobs by mid-July, with 1,542 joining the Greek Police force, 575 taking posts at prisons, 141 joining the Finance Ministry and the remainder going to other understaffed state services.
