PASOK says Finance Ministry should heed court verdict and take back cleaners

Coalition partner PASOK has called on the Finance Ministry to abide by a court decision to allow some 400 cleaners to return to work.

Some of the cleaners blocked the entrance to PASOK’s headquarters in central Athens to protest that the ministry has yet to re-employ them, despite a first instance court ruling in mid-May ordering the government to take back the workers.

The Finance Ministry has appealed against the decision and has sought a temporary order allowing it not to employ the cleaners until its appeal has been heard.

The cleaners met on Monday with secretary of PASOK’s central political committee, Nikos Androulakis, who said the government should act in line with the court’s decision.
