Trial over shooting of migrant farm workers begins in Patra

Dozens of migrants gathered on Friday outside a court house in the western port of Patra where judges opened the trial of the owner of a strawberry farm in Nea Manolada and his three foremen who are accused of shooting at dozens of foreign workers following a dispute over pay in 2013.

The incident occurred on April 17 last year, when the foremen opened fire on a group of a around 120 migrant laborers who had been demanding six months’ worth of unpaid wages.

The four defendants face charges of causing grievous bodily harm after 28 of the workers were hospitalized with wounds from the shooting. They also face charges of labor trafficking.
