Three policeman hospitalized after dog attack

Three Athens policemen were receiving treatment at the 401 military hospital on Tuesday for dog bites suffered during an attempt to arrest a man who had been causing a disturbance in the neighborhood of Ambelokipi earlier in the day.

The officers were dispatched to Laconias Street in Ambelokipi at 9 a.m. after residents reported that a man, apparently under the influence of alcohol, was harassing passersby and allowing his dog to bark and snarl at them.

In their attempt to subdue the man, the three officers were attacked by the dog, which bit two of them on the legs and the third on the hands and arms before he was able to bring the dog under control.

The owner of the dog, which has been turned over to the state’s veterinary service, was arrested.
