Protest rally marks one year since ERT closure

A rally organized by unions marking one year since the sudden closure of state broadcaster ERT by the government was expected to culminate in a protest outside the former ERT headquarters in Aghia Paraskevi, northern Athens, on Wednesday evening.

A four-hour work stoppage organized by the Journalists’ Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday also marked the day the broadcasting network was shut down as part of the administration’s austerity measures.

SYRIZA chief Alexis Tsipras was reportedly expected to join protesters in Aghia Paraskevi late on Wednesday.
