Draft law aims to curb MPs’ privileges

Greek MPs will have their privileges suspended if they are accused of certain misdemeanors, according to a draft law submitted to Parliament on Wednesday by the Justice Ministry.

They will be barred from all privileges enjoyed by lawmakers if they are convicted.

The misdemeanors include theft, fraud, embezzlement, forgery, lying under oath, breach of faith, bribery and defamation.

The privileges the deputies would lose include access to a car and driver, free postage and phone calls and office costs.

Their wages would not be affected.
