Case file on submarines submitted to Parliament
A prosecutor submitted the case file regarding the controversial procurement of four German submarines to Parliament on Wednesday. The file was based on minutes recorded during a parliamentary plenary session and submitted to prosecutors by SYRIZA MP Zoi Constantopoulou.
The case file had sought an investigation into whether charges should be brought against Evangelos Venizelos, who formerly served as defense minister, and ex-Finance Minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou. However, the House has already ruled there is no need to further investigate the case and rejected the request for a parliamentary committee to look into the issue.
Judicial sources told Kathimerini that allegations the government shut down the Parliament’s plenary session on June 4 so that charges against the two officials would expire under the statute of limitations are groundless.
