Killer Satanist to undergo psych tests at Korydallos
A 22-year-old man alleged to have confessed to killing a 41-year-old homeless woman in Glyfada, southern Athens, as a “sacrifice to Satan” on Easter Sunday was to be transferred to the psychiatric unit of Attica’s high-security Korydallos Prison on Thursday after testifying before a prosecutor and an investigating magistrate.
Medics at the Korydallos clinic are to submit the suspect to tests to determine whether he suffers from any specific mental illnesses or is addicted to any form of drug, sources said.
The 22-year-old is said to have repeated his assertion, originally made to police, according to which he killed the woman as a sacrifice to Satan, though he reportedly expressed regret for his actions and denied that he had planned a second murder.
The 41-year-old, a homeless woman known in the local community and believed to have been suffering from depression, was found dead on a bench in a central Glyfada square on April 10. The number 666 and an upside-down cross were daubed on the back of the bench in her blood.
The suspect’s lawyer, Failos Kranidiotis, said he believed his client is “seriously mentally disturbed,” noting that two attempts had been made in the past to commit him to psychiatric hospitals but were rejected as the suspect was a minor at the time.
