Officers seeking another ton of heroin at second Koropi warehouse

In an ongoing bid to curb the operations of a huge drug trafficking racket, officers of the country’s Financial Crimes Unit (SDOE) were on Friday working with Coast Guard officers in a bid to find an additional ton of heroin believed to be hidden in a warehouse in Koropi, eastern Athens, close to the warehouse where half a ton of the drug was found last week.

Authorities believe a 41-year-old shipping firm owner, who was implicated in the racket after half a ton of heroin was found at his Filothei home last week, moved up to a ton of the drug to a second warehouse in Koropi.

The 41-year-old was remanded in custody on Tuesday after testifying before an investigating magistrate on drug dealing charges.
