Firemen injured in car fire explosion in Thessaloniki

Two firemen were injured in an explosion sparked by a car fire in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, early Wednesday.

The firefighters were tending to a car fire at the Lidl supermarket parking lot in the city’s Allatini district around 2 a.m.

The fire form the car’s gas tank fueled an explosion that injured two firefighters who were later were taken to a local hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

The car fire is believed to have been started deliberately. Police are investigating the incident.
