Family of Welsh man missing on Crete launches public appeal

The family of a 73-year-old man from Lenton Pool in Wales is appealing to the public for information after he went missing while on holiday in Hania, on the southern Aegean island of Crete, this week.

Arthur Jones was last seen on Thursday, June 19, and was reported missing after failing to return home on a flight booked on Tuesday, June 24.

Greek authorities have launched a search, while Jones’s family has also launched an appeal to holidaymakers or residents in the region to share any information they may have with the local police or with Jeff Jones, the missing man’s 37-year-old son, via e-mail at [email protected].

“He normally goes on these sorts of holidays alone about two or three times a year, and we are asking that anybody who remembers seeing him during this time to contact the authorities immediately,” Jeff Jones told News North Wales on Thursday, saying that his father is an avid hiker and may have gone off walking alone.

Anyone with information regarding Arthur Jones’s whereabouts can also contact the UK-based Missing Abroad Operations Team on 02070 475060.
