Airline worker among suspectsa arrested for migrant smuggling

A 33-year-old airline worker and five former colleagues are among 10 people believed to have been running an operation for getting immigrants onto international flights from Athens with false passports and travel documents.

The gang was uncovered when the 33-year-old, who helped the undocumented migrants board the flights, approached a police officer serving at Athens International Airport and asked him if he was interested in joining the racket for a cut of the proceeds.

The officer agreed to cooperate but then reported the incident to his superiors, who set up a sting operation.
