Gov’t argues with SYRIZA over terrorist’s arrest
SYRIZA MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis (photo) described Friday as “absurd and dangerous” comments by government spokeswoman Sofia Voultepsi in which she accused the opposition party of providing terrorists with a cover of “political legitimacy.”
Voultepsi made the claim after SYRIZA failed to congratulate the Greek Police for arresting fugitive Revolutionary Struggle leader Nikos Maziotis on Wednesday.
The leftists said his capture came about as a result of his “mistake” rather than good police work.
“We suppose that the next stage [for SYRIZA] will be for them to start offering advice to terrorists so they do not make the same mistakes in the future,” Voultepsi said on Thursday.
Papadimoulis insisted that SYRIZA was opposed to terrorism and said Voultepsi’s comment could be damaging.
“For the government spokeswoman to make comments like this about a democratic party, which could win the next elections, is harmful for the country,” the Euro parliamentarian told Skai TV.
