Jean-Claude Juncker to make first official visit to Athens on Monday

European Commission President-elect Jean-Claude Juncker is expected in Athens on Monday, where he will be meeting with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, the Commission announced on Friday.

“My priority as Commission president is jobs, growth and investment and I am pleased to be going to Greece to discuss these priorities with my friend and colleague Prime Minister Antonis Samaras,” the former premier of Luxembourg said.

Juncker’s visit to Athens will be his first to a European Union member state in his capacity as Commission president-elect.

“I want to send a message of hope and optimism by recognizing the efforts of the Greek people and the Greek government in reforming their country,” Juncker added.
