Probe finds alleged illegal funding from postal service to union

The federation of postal workers’ unions (POST) may have received millions of euros in illegal funding from Hellenic Post (ELTA), a recent investigation by the Financial Police has revealed.

The probe covered the 2007-10 period and allegedly found that ELTA paid some 5.6 million euros into a POST account reserved for members’ subsidized holidays and another 2.3 million euros into another account meant to bankroll collective labor agreements, among other deposits, said to total 16 million euros.

Responding to the allegations, POST President Giorgos Vassilopoulos said that the money came from members’ regular contributions, which were withheld from their paychecks by ELTA.
