Ex-Golden Dawn candidate gets conditional release

A council of appeals court judges ruled on Thursday that Themis Skordeli (photo, left), a former parliamentary candidate for the neofascist Golden Dawn party, be granted conditional release pending trial on charges of belonging to a criminal organization.

Skordeli, who has been in custody since January, was to be released on a 3,000-euro bail and on the condition that she report to her local police precinct twice a month and not leave the country.

Skordeli, 50, has denied the charges, but a police search of her home turned up leaflets with the Golden Dawn logo and firecrackers.
