Greece to give 500,000 euros toward Palestinian relief effort

Following the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, Greece announced on Thursday that it would contribute 500,000 euros to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to help with its humanitarian assistance to Palestinians.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Greek authorities are also willing to work with the European Union and UNRWA to treat injured Palestinians, especially children, in Greece.

Palestinian officials say 1,886 Palestinians, including 430 children, were killed during four weeks of fighting between Israel and Hamas.

They also reported that 9,567 people were wounded, including 2,878 children.

UNICEF estimates that nearly 400,000 children in Gaza are in need of psychological help.
