Elderly parents to face magistrate for son’s murder

The parents of a 39-year-old food delivery worker whose burned remains were discovered in a car near the town of Astros in the Peloponnese last Friday are on Tuesday to face an investigating magistrate on murder charges.

The 75-year-old father and his wife, 67, are expected to repeat their claims that their son beat them. Last Easter, the 39-year-old is alleged to have tied the pair to their bed and videotaped himself beating them. The couple’s lawyer told Kathimerini that a search is under way for the tape. Police, however, link the killing to alleged attempts by the son to ensure he would be the sole beneficiary of the family home.

On Monday another three relatives – two of the victim’s aunts and an uncle – testified in connection with the killing and were released.
