Kapernaros says he won’t back gov’t choice for president
Independent MP Vassilis Kapernaros said on Tuesday that he would not vote for any candidate the government puts forward early next year to succeed President Karolos Papoulias.
Kapernaros, who was a member of Independent Greeks until recently, said that he is taking this position because he wants to prevent the government getting the 180 votes it needs to prevent early national elections.
“Someone has to bring this wrong and humiliating government to an end,” he said.
“There are discussions going on about how the numbers will add up so [Prime Minister Antonis] Samaras will get 180 votes when Greek families are being slapped in the face with taxes every day and are trying to ensure their survival.”
