Three passengers missing from two migrant boats

A total of 138 undocumented immigrants were detained by coast guard officers on the southeastern Aegean island of Symi after their wooden boat foundered on rocks early on Friday in an apparent bid to avoid an inspection by a Latvian coast guard vessel that was monitoring the area as part of the European Union’s Poseidon program.

Also on Friday, 12 unregistered immigrants were taken into custody on Lesvos, in the eastern Aegean, after their boat allegedly sank off the island’s coast.

One woman was reported missing.

Authorities detained 40 undocumented migrants on the tiny Aegean islet of Agathonisi.

Coast guard officers were reportedly seeking for two missing passengers.

Not far from there, off the coast of Samos, a vessel belonging to Frontex, the EU border monitoring agency, intercepted seven migrants in a rubber dinghy.
