Navy’s Prometheus brings doctors to remote Aegean islands

Naval support ship Prometheus will be touring the Dodecannese in the eastern Aegean from September 3-11 in order to provide residents of remote islands with primary healthcare, the Hellenic Navy reported on Tuesday.

Prometheus is carrying a team of specialized physicians – including a pathologist, cardiologist, general surgeon, gynecologist, urologist, microbiologist and dentist, as well as a children’s doctor – who provide medical support to communities lacking basic healthcare facilities.

The ship will be stopping at Kasos on September 3 and Karpathos on September 4-5. It will then make single-day stops at Kastelorizo on September 6, followed by Halki, Tilos and Nisyros. The final leg of its Dodecannese journey will see it docking in Astypalaia on September 10 and 11.
