Three charged after soccer fan is seriously injured in Crete

A prosecutor has charged three men, aged 22, 24 and 27, with attempted manslaughter after a 46-year-old soccer fan sustained serious head injuries when violent clashes erupted between supporters of third-division clubs Irodotos and Ethnikos Piraeus on Sunday in Nea Alikarnassos, in Iraklio, Crete.

The victim was airlifted to a military hospital in Athens, where he is said to be in a critical condition.

The violence is believed to have started as the match was drawing to a close, when Irodotos fans reportedly attacked visiting Ethnikos supporters in the stands. A fourth suspect was being sought by police.
