Businessman denies involvement in drug ring

The 62-year-old director of a fuel company based in Dubai denied on Monday in a Piraeus court that he had anything to do with the Noor One, a ship that transported a ton of heroin to Greece earlier this year.

The suspect, a Greek national known by the nickname Captain George, denied allegations made by the ship’s captain that he had ordered the ship to be loaded and sailed to Greece. The businessman accused a shipowner, who is in custody, of being behind the plan.

Captain George claimed that the Noor One’s captain had been coached by the shipping magnate to give false testimony. Half a ton of heroin was found at the home of the shipowner’s ex-wife in Filothei, northern Athens, in June.
