MPs vote not to probe NERIT resignations
Parliament’s institutions and transparency committee on Wednesday turned down the opportunity to investigate the recent resignations at public broadcaster NERIT, which saw the service’s CEO, his deputy and a member of the supervisory council quit their positions in the past few days citing government interference.
The New Democracy-PASOK majority on the committee voted against probing the resignations, while all the opposition parties bar Golden Dawn voted in favor of an investigation.
Members of the governing parties dismissed SYRIZA’s request for a probe as an attempt to ratchet up political tension.
“Some people only want to use [the transparency committee] to play political games,” said conservative lawmaker Thanasis Bouras.
