Extradited Greek couple to face magistrate in Athens

Greek businessman Kyriakos Griveas and his wife Anastasia Vatsika were expected to face a magistrate in Athens on Thursday after a British court agreed to extradite them following a European arrest warrant issued by Greek authorities. The couple arrived in Athens on Wednesday and surrendered to authorities.

The couple is facing charges in Greece in connection to a probe into unsecured loans worth some 17 million euros issued to companies owned by Griveas by Hellenic Postbank (TT) which allegedly ended up in the couple’s personal bank accounts.

Griveas and Vatsika handed themselves in to UK authorities in January and were later released after posting 50,000 pounds in bail.
