Doctors charged over homeless man’s suicide

An Athens prosecutor ordered the arrest of two doctors on negligence charges on Friday, in connection with the alleged suicide of a 44-year-old homeless man who fell to his death from the fourth floor of a city center hotel leased by the City of Athens to serve as a homeless shelter. According to the case file, the 44-year-old had been diagnosed as suffering from depression, among other illnesses, and had been referred to the psychiatric unit where the two doctors worked by staff at another hospital. According to the prosecutor, the doctors are accused of releasing the 44-year-old, who returned to the shelter and subsequently jumped to his death.
