Rowing event goes smoothly
All scheduled events at the World Junior Rowing Championships at Schinias, northeast of Athens, were held without disruption yesterday, although the course had to be halved to 1,000 meters to deal with still-strong winds blowing at the site. Thursday’s events had all been canceled but the organizers have made up for the delay and the event, the first of seven test events at Olympic venues this month, will end today, as scheduled, unless winds pick up again. The conditions, although rare, have forced Olympics organizers to think of contingency plans. None of the participants, however, asked that the event be postponed, or canceled. «The general feeling is that things were hard, but that, on principle, the best got into the finals,» French national coach Yves Le Saux told Agence France-Presse.
