Thessaloniki court convicts supermarket owner for murdering girlfriend

A Thessaloniki court on Wednesday sentenced a 63-year-old supermarket owner from the village of Neo Petritsi, near Serres, to life in prison after finding him guilty of murdering a 53-year-old mother of two with whom he is alleged to have had an affair before throwing her into a mountain ravine.

The investigation began last November after the 63-year-old admitted to killing the woman, a resident of the same village as him, in May of that year but claimed that her death was a mistake.

Addressing the court, the man claimed to have pushed the woman during an argument, prompting her to slip and fall into the ravine.
