Teachers named in child abuse probe to face dismissal

As an investigation by the police’s cyber crimes squad revealed that suspects alleged to have made sexual advances to minors over the Internet include at least four teachers, Education Minister Andreas Loverdos (photo) said that any teachers implicated in the probe would be immediately dismissed.

In comments on Wednesday after talks with the head of the police’s cyber crimes squad, Manolis Sfakianakis, Loverdos said at least four teachers have been identified as alleged online predators. Sources said the number could be closer to 100.

Loverdos said there would be no leniency in such cases.

“All of those people – whoever they are, whatever they are – will be immediately ejected from the education system,” he said.
