Greece’s Silver Alert system helps find 162 missing elderly

The Silver Alert early warning system for missing elderly people has traced 162 of the 499 people reported as unaccounted for in its three-and-a-half years of service, according to figures made public on friday.

Of the 162 people found after a Silver Alert warning was issued, 93 were in good health, according to the service, which said that four had traveled beyond Greek borders and were traced by police in cooperation with their counterparts in other European countries.

According to sources, at least two of the cases of missing elderly people undertaken by the Silver Alert service every month have been forced out of their homes by their own children.
