Soccer fan hospitalized after crowd trouble at Greek third division game dies

A soccer fan who was hospitalized after crowd trouble in Crete earlier this month died early on Monday.

Costas Katsoulis, 47, was taken to the hospital in Iraklio after fighting broke out in the stands at a third division game between local side Irodotos and Ethnikos of Piraeus.

Katsoulis, an Ethnikos supporter, was initially diagnosed as suffering a brain haemorrhage after suffering an aneurism.

Three Cretan men have been charged with attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm. Three of them are in pre-trial custody. The fourth has been released on bail.
